While the current season is still ongoing, the international break
represents an important occasion for Serie A’ s clubs to outline
strategies for the next campaign and plan their summer transfer dealings in
advance.
Napoli’s Edinson Cavani is a name which you would find
easily on the top of European clubs’ shopping lists. Real Madrid might see him
as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement if the Portuguese winger leaves the Spanish
capital and Chelsea could be keen on taking a prolific striker, especially with
the recent flops of Demba Ba and Fernando Torres. However, according to the Guardian,
the Uruguayan is set on a move to Manchester, where City are expected to make a
big summer spree in order to bolster the squad.
With big clubs circling Cavani, Napoli are seeking his substitute. A swap
with City’s Edin Dzeko might be the easiest solution, with
Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez – who lost his starting place in
the Bavarian team after the arrival of Croatian Mario Madzukic –
representing a valid alternative.
In the meantime, Napoli are also looking in South America, and recently
monitored Internacional de Porto Alegre striker Leandro Damiao,
who was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur last January, though the
club eventually failed to sign him.
Along with Cavani, Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic is arguably
among the most desired Serie A’s players in Europe. The Montenegrin has been
strongly linked with a move to Juventus, but the long-lasting rivalry between
the two clubs might suggest that the Della Valle family will try to sell him to
a foreign club instead. Manchester City and Arsenal are both interested in the
23-year-old attacker. The Bianconeri might tempt Fiorentina
including in the deal players like Alessandro Matri, Fabio Quagliarella and Sebastian
Giovinco.
It is clear that Juventus, after having signed striker Fernando Llorente
last January, are looking to add more firepower to compete in Europe. According
to Gazzetta dello Sport, they are monitoring big names like Zlatan
Ibrahimovic and Luis Suarez, while Arsenal’s Lukas
Podolski and Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez are also
linked with Old Lady. The latter, a former Udinese player, is no
longer a key player for the Catalan side, therefore he would be happy to come
back to Serie A, and even Inter have put his name in their shopping list.
The Nerazzurri are also expected
to sign Sampdoria starlet Mauro Icardi for next
season. Aforementioned Bosnian striker Dzeko is another target, as well as
Bologna’s 29-year-old playmaker Alessandro Diamanti, who
has impressed so far this season and would aim for playing on the big stage.
Inter are also ready to make a bid for some of Barcelona’s marginal players,
such as defensive midfielders Alex Song and left-back Martin Montoya
